Abdulhadi Al Khawaja is the cofounder and former president of the Bahrain Cener for Human Rights and is an outspoken critic of the Al Khalifa regime for its human rights abuses in Bahrain. He is also an active member of Frontline, an Irish based human rights organization which works for the protection of human rights defenders. He was brutally abducted by the Bahrani security forces in a late night raid on April 8, 2011.
The security forces beat him unconscious in front of his family during the abduction and then badly tortured him in detention, forcing him into the hospital for fractures in his face. He was recently handed a life sentence in a hurried military show trial.
Activists fear for his safety. Security forces continued to beat him in custody, despite his major wounds, and sexually assaulted him.
Please take part in this human rights campaign to save Abdulhadi. Front Line Defenders is holding an urgent action campaign at http://www.bahrainhrd.org/act_now
